Coco Raynes Associates, Inc. is a multidisciplinary design firm with a broad background in environmental graphics, architectural and industrial design. Services range from conceptual design and programming to supervision of manufacturing and installation.

Since 1969, the firm has produced large and diversified programs for buildings and public spaces, including universities, hospitals, transportation facilities, parks, museums, hotels, restaurants, and visitor centers. The firm’s organizational skills are best illustrated by large scale projects, such as the sign and information system for over 1.5 million square feet of medical and teaching facilities at the University of Wisconsin Clinical Science Center in Madison, Wisconsin, the master plan for the 16 buildings and parking garage of the New England Medical Center, and the Black and Decker World Headquarters in Towson, Maryland, a comprehensive sign system for a multi-building complex with parking structures, connecting highways and roads.

International projects include sign and graphic programs for the Dragon Valley Resort Hotel in Korea, the Boston Swissôtel in Istanbul, Maloka Science and Technology Museum in Bogotá, Colombia, the 3 kilometer long Greenbelt Garage in Kuwait, and most recently, the Arab American International Medical Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In addition to our main body of work in environmental graphic design, the firm has expertise in Accessibility. We were selected by the United States Access Board to design their new identity and communication material. We have also developed Universal Design solutions and products to address the information needs of blind people. Among these are tactile maps on glass, and the Raynes Rail, a Braille and Audio Handrail System with multilingual capabilities. For our work on Universal Design, the firm was honored in 1994 with the prestigious Gold Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), and the Honor Award from the Society of Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD).

Recent projects include the first phase of a Universal Information System at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, the Worcester Public Library in Massachusetts, the new Hillel Student Center at Boston University, the Hebrew College campus in Newton, and One Lincoln Street – the new highrise and Parking Garage in downtown Boston.

The firm is a leader in the field of Environmental Graphics and has received worldwide recognition for its contribution to Universal Design.
