NEWBRIDGE ON THE CHARLES

NEEDHAM, MA

The wayfinding, signage and donor recognition program is woven through
the site — from campus naming,
to streets and walking trails, to stone walls which identify buildings and
areas with carved lettering.

Vehicular signs mimic the buildings’ architecture, and concisely present
direction with regulation.

The interior program uses beige glass to discreetly blend with the surroundings.
  • A map part of the wayfinding system
  • A wayfinding sign indicating direction
  • Wayfinding sign 3
The design links 500 donors names,
the history of the Foundation, and the dedication of the new building into a single exhibit wall.

Artifacts float in front of the mural which features enlarged historic documents, such as the scribble notes which trace the discovery of insulin by Best and Banting.

The building identity complements
the architectural design of the roofline, with individual pin-mounted letters suspended from their own beam.
